Classic Film Montage

I adore all the films from Hollywoods Golden Age, musicals in particular (Donald O'Connor musicals in particular) so i made this little tribute to the films I love, Enjoy :) P.s. the song is Inside Out by Imelda May.
Tribute to Donald O'Connor
Переглядів 5 тис.12 років тому
Donald O'Connor was, in my opinion the greatest entertainer and all round performer of all time. He did everything. On radio he sang with Bing Crosby and told thrilling mysteries. On film he starred in classic like Singin in the Rain with Gene Kelly, Gary Cooper, Debbie Reynolds, Mitzi Gaynor and Marilyn Monroe. In his singing career he had several hits including his famous duet with Doris Day....
Donald O'Connor & Judy Garland - Friendship (Duet)
Переглядів 7 тис.12 років тому
Donald and Judy both sang this song but never actually together, this I thought was unfortunate as it may aswell have been written for them, so I did my best to put the two together to create a makeshift duet :)

I know that I must sound like an "old Fogey" ( well is AM 88 years of age) but there is no argument, these musicals were simply fantastic. We all knew the story, and that all would come right in the end, but they showed such fantastic talent, they could all act, dance, sing and were competant doing lots of other incidentals, which the so called "Stars" of today cannot begin to emulate. now it seems like we really do not need stars, as everything is computer generated. I thank God that I got to see some of these fantastic performers.

Elvis was a black Dude from the inside. He ADORED Black-Bluesartists. He knew them all. Rhythme in EVERY CELL of his Body. Thats what he was. Obsessed by Music. A friend from his neighborhood in Memphis said that Elvis was more black then all the black folks around.🤗🤭

Again, just more proof that a world did exist without auto-tune and it was perfection! It's called talent, and there just seems to be a dearth of it now-a-days ... Funny story - I had a Carpenters CD playing when my grand kids (9 through 12 years old) were over for the holidays and one of them said Karen's voice was so beautiful HAHA They all wanted to listen to it over and over ...

This movie has absolutely NOTHING to do with Cole Porter's original stagecraft. The numbers are bastardized versions of what was once electrifying. Crosby and O'Connor do their best here, but they're hampered by a disastrous script and two ineffectual female leads. Mitzi Gaynor is particularly disappointing since she is an exceptionally fine actress and musical/comedy star. Jean Marie fails to impress. Paramount added VistaVision but not much else to this claptrap. A spectacular fail on almost every artistic level.

I hear singing and there's no one there I smell blossoms and the trees are bare All day long I seem to walk on air I wonder why, I wonder why I keep tossing in my sleep at night And what's more I've lost my appetite Stars that used to twinkle in the skies Are twinkling in my eyes I wonder why (To relieve that pleasant ache) (You're not sick, you're just in love) I hear singing and there's no one there (You don't need analyzing) (It is not so surprising) I smell blossoms and the trees are bare (That you feel very strange but nice) All day long I seem to walk on air (Your heart goes pitter patter) (I know just what's the matter) I wonder why (Because I've been there once or twice) I wonder why I keep tossing in my sleep at night (With your head on my shoulder) (You need someone who's older) And what's more I've lost my appetite (A rub down with a velvet glove) Stars that used to twinkle in the skies (There is nothing you can take) (To relieve that pleasant ache) Are twinkling in my eyes (You're not sick) I wonder why (You're just in love) And I know why I'm just in love

There were so many great tappers who could sing and act...and one of my favorites was Donald.....He always seemed like he enjoyed what he did and he made it look easy... others looked like they overpracticed . When Debbie Reynolds and Donald danced in movies like "I Love Melvin" they seems to have joy with what they did even though I know how tough it is to get lines, dances ect to come across natural.

I cannot get over the look on his face when she’s explaining that she’s engaged. Shock, confusion, barely concealed heartbreak, but also some hope because she doesn’t sound happy about it. No words, all in his eyes. Nobody but Peter O’Toole could’ve played Simon. I think it’s among his greatest roles.
